3.Application
PDC (Polycrystalline diamond compact/composite) drill bits are an
effective tool for drilling into homogeneous sedimentary rock
formations such as shale, sandstone, dolomite, limestone etc. These
drill bits use the shearing scraping or shaving action when
encountering the rock formation.
4.Structure
PDC drill bits are made up of a bit body and a cutting structure.
The bit body is typically made of steel and serves as the main
structure of the drill bit. The cutting structure is made up of
small, flat, diamond-tipped inserts called PDC cutters, which are
strategically placed on the surface of the bit body.
PDC cutters are made by placing tiny diamond crystals in a
high-pressure, high-temperature environment. The diamonds are then
bonded together with a metal matrix, forming a polycrystalline
diamond compact. PDC cutters are extremely hard and durable, making
them ideal for use in drilling applications where high wear and
tear are expected.
